2023 Award design - Pamela Rojas

The WRCF awards are inspired by my series Urban Pulse. This series reflects my journey throughout the Canadian urban landscape, dominated by gray and cement tones. At the same time, underlying colours are locked in, waiting to be revealed.

The colours I used in the sculptures are the same as the logo of WRCF, which represents all the strengths that we need to unify for raising a strong and supportive community.

The smooth base of the sculpture is done by slowly pouring cement to represent a solid foundation. The textured section portrays the need for collaboration from different sectors to build a united society, with openness to accept unique ways for collaboration. Doing so allows us to make steps towards a future with a healthy society.

The uneven stairs along the sculptures symbolize the path we need to build together to reach our goals for the community.

On the top of the sculptures, a layer of solid cement with colourful houses is the visualization of an equitable, joyful, and sustainable future that we want for our region. Along with the hope that every home brings its own colours to build a vibrant city.
