By comparison, the average number of days lost in Ontario in 2007 was 9.3. Canada- wide, the average was 10.2 missed days. The average number of missed days in Kitchener has decreased from a level of 9.2 in 1987.

With a work absence rate of 8.5 per cent, Kitchener had a rate equal to the rate for Ontario (8.5 per cent) and 0.3 percentage points below the national rate (8.8 per cent). The rate has increased 23 per cent from 6.9 per cent in 1987. This compares to an increase of 52 per cent nationally and a 42 per cent increase in Ontario.
