Random acts of kindness are a wonderful way to reach out and touch the lives of others and make our world a better place. On November 14, 2008, our residents celebrated the first ever Random Act of Kindness Day. Masterminded by a group of volunteers called "Friends of the Foundation," the day was earmarked to reflect and act upon our spontaneous thoughts of generosity - simply, to celebrate kindness.
During the weeks leading up to Random Act of Kindness Day®, several businesses, organizations, schools, individuals, and members of the media took up the call to do something nice for their fellow citizen. With close to 100,000 Random Act of Kindness Day cards circulating around the community, people were encouraged to perform a simple act of kindness for someone - a neighbour, a friend, a co-worker, or someone they didn't even know - and ask that person to do the same.
It was exciting to see so many people - young and old - making an effort to be friendlier and nicer to others on that one single day. Folks are still sharing their Random Act of Kindness stories with us and we, in turn, are posting them on our website at www.kwcf.ca. If you have a "kindness" story to tell, we'd love to hear from you!
Stay tuned for the second Random Act of Kindness Day® on Friday, November 13, 2009!
