Applying For Grants

Grant making is one of the key ways we support our community. We provide grants from a variety of funds throughout the year, each with their own guidelines and schedules.

Only registered charities (qualified donees) are eligible for grants from The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation. Non-profit organizations that do not have a charitable registration number, but would like to apply for a grant, please click here. Your charitable registration number is a nine-digit number followed by RR0001.

Waterloo Region True Sport Grant Program

Every year, millions of Canadians come together through sport. Community sport inspires friendship, learning, health, and personal growth.  It is also a strong influencer in the lives of our youth.

Recently the True Sport Foundation with support from the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation began a partnership with community foundations across Canada to transform lives and communities through sports.  One of those community foundations was The KWCF.  Together with the City of Waterloo, they are looking to support sports-related projects in Waterloo Region.

Individuals, groups, associations, and charitable organizations are invited to submit applications for the Waterloo Region True Sport Grant program.  Projects are to engage community members in "asset-based community development" through sport.

The deadline is now over. Thanks to all that have applied.

Community Fund Grant Information

Our biggest grant making activities involve the Community Fund. The Community Fund pools donations into an unrestricted fund, allowing us to provide grants to a wide range of registered charitable organizations in our community.
The Community Fund allows us to create opportunities to improve K-W and area and forge partnerships to tackle our region's most pressing issues. Our annual Waterloo Region's Vital Signs report provides us with a blueprint to invest - and take action.

We accept grant applications for the Community Fund twice a year. All applications received are shared with our donors who often choose to partner with the Community Fund in awarding grants.
