Community Initiatives

Part of the The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation’s mission is to provide leadership in the community. Check out some of the projects that The KWCF has been involved in recently.

Waterloo Region’s Vital Signs

First launched in October of 2007, Waterloo Region’s Vital Signs is an annual community check-up through which The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation and the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation measure the vitality of our Region, identify significant trends, and assign grades in 11 areas critical to Waterloo Region’s quality of life.  Now in its third year, Waterloo Region's Vital Signs is providing us with a better sense of the issues of importance in our community and is helping to guide our grant making.

Youth Advisory Coucil (YAC)

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a sub-committee of The KWCF consisting of youth from our community.

YAC provides youth in the community with an opportunity to:

  • Be a philanthropist
  • Work with motivated youth
  • Gain leadership experience
  • Make community connections
ENGAGE!

Have you ever thought about the time in your life when you will have the means to get more involved in our community by donating funds or volunteering? If you did get five minutes to slow down long enough to think about it - would you know what organizations would benefit the most from your time or resources? The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation has developed a unique program to help you do just that. ENGAGE! is dedicated to helping others make a difference in the K-W community.

Random Act Of Kindness Day

Together, lets celebrate kindness! Random acts of kindness are a wonderful way to touch the lives of others and make our work a better place. November 14, 2008 marked the inaugural Random Act Of Kindness Day in Kitchener-Waterloo and area.  Learn more about how this annually celebrated day has provided us with an opportunity to slow down and  take a moment to recognize when someone does something kind and then pay that act of kindness forward to another.
